Join the City of Dublin as they celebrate those who serve and have served our country this Veterans Day.
A number of events will take place Nov. 11, including a complimentary breakfast for all veterans from 9-10:30 a.m. at La Chatelaine in Historic Dublin. The Veterans Day Ceremony will take place from 11 a.m. to noon at the Grounds of Remembrance in the Dublin Veterans Park.
Jody Davids, mother of the fallen Lance Corporal Wesley G. Davids, will deliver the keynote address during the ceremony. Her son, Wesley, who died as a member of the Lima Company, is the namesake of the local American Legion Post 800.
The Eyes of Freedom, The Lima Company Memorial, will be on display Nov. 9-13 at the Performing Arts Center at Dublin Scioto High School, 4000 Hard Rd. Visiting hours will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m on Nov. 9; 9 a.m.-7 p.m on Nov. 10-12; and 9 a.m.-5 p.m on Nov. 13. An opening ceremony for the memorial will begin at 7 p.m. the first day of the exhibition.
The Eyes of Freedom exhibition travels around the country in honor of the veterans who lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan. The 23 fallen soldiers of Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment are depicted across eight large canvases that show the Americans who lost their lives in the line of duty in 2005. The images are accompanied by continuously-burning candles as well as the combat boots from the Marines themselves.
