Few things are as sure to light up a person’s face as a sweet puppy or loving dog.
The DogFest Walk ‘n Roll gives Columbus a chance to celebrate our four-legged friends while helping provide others with the many benefits dogs can offer.
On Sunday, Canine Companions for Independence (CCI) will bring its signature event to New Albany’s Market Square for its third year in Columbus.
The Walk ‘n Roll is a community dog walk designed to support and raise awareness for the
organization. CCI invites those interested to sign up, assemble a team and fundraise. Participants will be rewarded with DogFest prizes as they meet fundraising goals.
“This is a fun and exciting event for anyone who loves dogs and wants to learn more about a worthy cause in our area,” says Ashley Koehler, Public Relations Coordinator for CCI. “They will meet other dog-lovers and get to see some of our highly trained assistance dogs in action.”
The Walk ‘n Roll will feature a fully accessible and dog-friendly walk through New Albany. Additionally, dog celebrity Snoopy will be in attendance with photo opportunities. Family friendly activities will take place at Market Square throughout the day.
The money raised will benefit the nonprofit organization and its services. CCI provides those in need with highly-trained assistance dogs free of charge.
For people with disabilities, dogs can help them become more independent. CCI trains dogs to master many different tasks in order to become service dogs, skilled companions, hearing dogs and facility dogs.
When the DogFest comes to Market Square, Koehler says to anticipate many attendees bringing their Canine Companions or personal pets out to the event.
“Our (goal) for DogFest is to create a greater awareness of Canine Companions and introduce new people to our mission,” says Koehler.
