The Columbus Dance Theatre's 12th season continues with the production of Hands, at 8 p.m. April 2 and 3 and 8 p.m. April 3 at the CDT's Fisher Theatre.
This evening-length work by CDT Artistic Director Tim Veach is held in collaboration with Cuban-American painter Tony Rio and composer Korine Fujiwara. The new multi-media work features a video backdrop of Rio’s compelling series of paintings of hands.
An original score by Carpe Diem String Quartet member Fujiwara will merge with choreography by Veach as dancers and musicians explore the movement potential of hands and the human form.
“The opportunity to collaborate with artists of this caliber is a so inspiring. Korine and I have had several successful collaborations to date. This, combined with the use of evocative art work by Tony Rio will, I am certain, be a catalyst to create a unique movement landscape,” says Veach.
Following Hands is a production that offers the vantage point of the female choreographer. The Women's Dance Project, also at CDT’s Fisher Theatre, is at 8 p.m. May 14 and 3 and 8 p.m. May 15.
An impressive array of women choreographers have come together for this spring performance. Local, national and international choreographers have created work for the Company for a concert that examines dance from the feminine perspective.
“This season I really wanted to celebrate diversity and the unique voices of women. I want this concert to offer a view of movement from a women’s perspective with all of the life experiences that being a woman can bring to art making,” says Veach.
Choreographers will include an array of local and national choreographers as well as London based choreographer Donna Schoenherr who has staged works throughout the United States and Europe.
Tickets are $28 for adults or $10 for students. For more information on the productions or CDT's season, visit www.coldancetheatre.org.
