There are plenty of things going on throughout the city this week. Here are CityScene's top five picks for Feb. 5-12:

 

1. Shakespeare Takes Over.
The dancers of BalletMet get Shakespearian this week, with their presentation of A Midsummer Night's Dream Feb. 5-14 at the Capitol Theatre, 77 S. High St. Adventure abounds in this comedic ballet, which is based on Shakespeare’s delightful story. Visit www.balletmet.org.  

Opera Columbus also channels the famous playwright with its production of Romeo & Juliet at the Ohio Theatre, 39 E. State St., beginning Feb. 12, just in time for Valentine’s Day. Visit www.operacolumbus.org.  

2. Sing, Jubilee!
In collaboration with the King Arts Complex, the McCoy Center for the Arts, 100 W. Dublin-Granville Rd. in New Albany, presents the Fisk Jubilee Singers at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 6. These vocal artists and students are from Fisk University in Nashville, Tenn. In 1871, the original Jubilee Singers introduced songs of slavery to the world and were instrumental in preserving what are known today as Negro spirituals. They broke racial barriers in the United States and abroad in the late 19th century and entertained presidents, kings and queens. Visit www.mccoycenterforthearts.com.  

3. A Hair-raising Experience.
At 7 p.m. Feb. 8, Hair Theater presents Dude, Where’s My Hair?!? at the Abbey Theater in the Dublin Community Recreation Center, 5600 Post Road, Dublin. Dude, Where’s My Hair?!? is a show sponsored by the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation, featuring Pat Wynn Brown of Hair Theater and her gang of young “dudes” who have lost their hair from chemotherapy.

The Hair Theater Wig Fund is part of the Columbus Foundation and was started in 2001. Since then, Hair Theater has assisted 533 women and girls undergoing chemotherapy with wigs and hats. The Columbus Blue Jacket Foundation exists in conjunction with the National Hockey League’s Hockey Fights Cancer, which raises money and awareness for the fight against cancer. 4. On the Catwalk!
A Spring Fashion Show will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 11 at Sugar Bar, 525 N. Park St., to benefit Nationwide Children’s Hospital’s Childhood Obesity programs. Celebrity athletes and the city’s top fitness professionals will showcase spring fitness gear from Lululemon Athletic in the Short North. Proceeds from the event go toward Columbus Fitclique, which benefits The Center for Healthy Weight and Nutrition at the hospital. Visit www.columbusfitclique.com.  

5. Music is in the Air …
Indulge your eardrums this week. ProMusica presents “Songs of a Wayfarer” Feb. 6 at the Pontifical College Josephinum, 7625 N. High St., and “Letters from Lincoln” Feb. 7 at the Southern Theatre, 21 E. Main St. Guest artist and baritone Christopheren Nomura joins the group for both shows. Visit www.promusica.org.  

CityMusic welcomes back the Prima Trio at 2 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Grand Ballroom of the Athletic Club, 136 E. Broad St. Visit www.citymusiccolumbus.org. The Columbus Symphony Classical Series continues with “Shostakovich!” at 8 p.m. Feb. 5 and 6 at the Ohio Theatre, 39 E. State St., featuring the work of the Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich. Finally, the Columbus Blues Festival plays at 7 p.m. Feb. 6 at the Palace Theatre, 34 W. Broad St., with Bobby "Blue" Bland, Clarence Carter, Bobby Rush, Latimore, Ms. Jody, Lenny Williams and more. Visit www.ticketmaster.com.

The Dublin AM Rotary, sponsor of the Annual Arctic Open, has partnered with the Annual Wendy’s Chili Open, sponsored by the Westerville Sunrise Rotary Club, to hold their events on Feb. 6 at proximate locations and opposite schedules.

The Wendy's Chili Open is from noon to 5 p.m. at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, 4850 Powell Rd., Powell, and the Arctic Open is from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Shamrock Golf Club, 4436 W.
