If you've been eager to purge computer junk or paint thinner from your home or garage, now is the time to do it.
The City of Westerville will run a hazardous waste collection from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 5 at the Service Department Building, 350 Park Meadow Rd. (Enter the collection site from Schrock Road - signs will be posted as guides).
The collection will give Westerville residents the chance to dispose of hazardous materials that could harm or injure if disposed of incorrectly. According to the City of Westerville Web site, these materials include "pool chemicals, acids and caustics, lighter fluids, paint thinner, turpentine, adhesives, non-latex paint, old gasoline, propane tanks, kerosene, weed killers, antifreeze, insect killers, mercury, batteries and ammunition/gun powder." The city will not accept the following items: tires, regular trash, items from schools or businesses, LPG tanks larger than 20 pounds, needles or medical waste or appliances.
Residents may also discard unwanted computers or computer-related waste. Residents may dispose of latex paint with their regular trash, therefore it will not be a part of the hazardous waste collection.
