Ceremony and picnic scheduled for Grounds of Remembrance dedication

Dublin residents and families are invited to celebrate Memorial Day with the dedication of the Grounds of Remembrance at Dublin Veterans Park. The dedication ceremony begins at noon May 25 at the park, located at 77 N. High St.

Delivering the keynote speech is Col. Tom Moe, a Lancaster resident who, with Sen. John McCain, was held as a prisoner of war for five years in Vietnam. Other speakers include Mayor Marilee Chinnici-Zuercher and City Council members John Reiner and Michael Keenan. Veterans Project Committee member Jody Davids will also read a letter from her son, U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Wesley Davids, who was killed in Iraq in 2005. Jody Davids will be the first to place an item at the site's Memory Wall, and other attendees are encouraged to bring items, as well.

After the cereomny, a Memorial Day picnic featuring Civil War reenactors will take place behind Indian Run Elementary, which is west of the park.
