The Ohio Historical Center in Columbus has scheduled two Echoes in Time Theatre performances about events that had profound effects on American history - the women’s rights movement and the assassination of President Lincoln.
Featured presentations include Don’t Be Blind, Speak Your Minds! in March followed by Our Great Loss, the Death of President Lincoln in April.
In honor of March as Women’s History Month, Priscilla Hewetson of Columbus gives a spirited performance as suffragette Mrs. Abigail White, an advocate for the Ohio Contingent for Women’s Rights, in Don’t Be Blind, Speak Your Minds! It will be shown March 5, 12, 19 and 26. Up until the passage of the 19th amendment in 1920, women did not vote and were expected only tend to their husbands, children and households. Learn how early feminists such as White challenged these social conventions in their struggle for equality.
This year marks Abraham Lincoln’s bicentennial. As part of the commemorations throughout the year, Echoes in Time will stage Our Great Loss, the Death of President Lincoln on April 9, 16, 23 and 30. Dennis Thompson of Columbus will portray John Williams, a close friend to one of Lincoln’s physicians, who will give the audience a first-hand account of the untimely death of the 16th president on April 15, 1865 and its dramatic aftermath.
Each 30-minute, solo performance takes place at 7 and 8 p.m. Admission to the Ohio Historical Center is $8/adults, $7/senior (age 60 and up), $4/youth (ages 6-12) and free for OHS members and children 5 years old and under. Parking is $4 for nonmembers.
