“Best of Shadowbox” now showing at Easton
By: Samantha Gebert
It’s like MADtv meets Monty Python meets Saturday Night Live. Shadowbox, the sketch comedy and rock ‘n roll club, guarantees an evening of amusement and a break from everyday life with its new show Best of Shadowbox now playing at Easton.
Best of Shadowbox features the past year’s hit sketches and includes music by Led Zeppelin, Pink and Boston performed by Shadowbox’s own band, BillWho?. The original sketch comedies, performed by the writers, includes Mupranos, a peek at the Muppets offstage Soprano style, and Dr. Fill v. Dracula, a of spoof on Dr. Phil who counsels Dracula about his drinking problem — blood drinking, that is.
“Every time we revive sketches and songs we ask ourselves how can we improve them,” says Executive Producer Steve Guyer. “Everything gets tightened up. Even if we’ve done a sketch a million times, we are still in a constant state of rewriting it to make it the best it can possibly be.”
Before the show and during intermission, drinks and food are available for purchase and served by the performers to each table. The dinner-theater style seating is great for groups, including business outings and birthday parties.
The show is for audiences of all ages, however, the shows are rated R for adult comedy. “It’s not uncommon to see high school seniors celebrating their graduation and a couple celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary sitting at the same table,” says Psenicka.
Shadowbox began as an ensemble featuring original rock operas. But in 1994, the group decided to pursue more of a cabaret style. The cabaret debuted in Easton in 1999 and is now digging back to its rock opera roots. This summer, Shadowbox is showing its latest rock opera, The Rocky Horror Show, every Sunday until July 15. Show times are 2:30 and 7:30 p.m.
Tickets for Best of Shadowbox are $30 for regular admission and $20 for students and seniors. For more information about show times or to purchase tickets, visit the Shadowbox Web site at www.shadowboxcabaret.com.
