The Jeff Hamilton Trio, comprised of drummer Jeff Hamilton, award-winning pianist Tamir Hendelman and bassist Christoph Luty, will visit Columbus as part of Jazz Arts Group Columbus’ Inside Track series.
The Trio is slated to perform two sets at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., March 5, at Notes in the Brewery District, 520 S. High St.
Hamilton is best known for his work drumming with jazz luminaries such as Ella Fitzgerald, Oscar Peterson, Ray Brown and Diana Krall. When unaccompanied, his enthralling solos challenge what we might think we know about the drums.
Down Beat Magazine calls Hamilton, “a highly melodic and musical drummer,” and Kuumbwa Jazz Center says, “Hamilton’s fluid style has kept him very much in demand among the jazz elite.”
Inside Track is the Jazz Arts Group’s newest performance series. It aims to bring the best in contemporary music and small ensembles to Columbus’s historic Lincoln Theatre and, now, Notes. Next month, Inside Track will welcome the Aaron Diehl Trio at the Lincoln Theatre on April 23. Diehl is a Columbus native who The New York Times calls, “a smart young pianist with a fastidious grasp of jazz traditions.”
Tickets for each performance are $27 and can be purchased at www.eventbrite.com. Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. performance are sold out, but tickets for the later performance are still available.
