Get ready to laugh, scream and even rock out as Shadowbox Live brings the cult classic Little Shop of Horrors to the stage on Sept. 29.
Little Shop of Horrors follows Seymour Krelborn and his struggle to contain an evil, man-eating plant.
The production of the campy horror comedy rock musical looks to replicate the success Shadowbox Live has had with similar productions such as Reefer Madness and The Rocky Horror Show.
“Rocky is still one of our most requested shows,” says Stev Guyer, executive producer and CEO of Shadowbox Live. “We’re hoping Little Shop of Horrors will appeal to the audience in the same way. Huge characters, goofy songs and, of course, giant plant puppets.”
The giant plant puppet Guyer talks of is Audrey II, the man-eating floral antagonist of the musical.
There will be four different sizes of Audrey II in the production. Lukas Tomasacci, who plays the main protagonist Seymour Krelborn, was behind the design and construction of the botanical beasts.
“I don’t want to give away the secrets,” says Tomasacci, “so all I’ll say is it’s ridiculously fun to play Seymour while operating a puppet with such an enormous character, even while it’s still small.”
Opening night for Little Shop of Horrors is Sept. 29 at 7:30 p.m. and will continue running on Sundays at 2 and 7 p.m. until Nov. 13. Tickets are $25, while discounted tickets are $20 for students, seniors and member of the military.
CityScene Magazine’s October launch party will precede opening night of Little Shop of Horrors from 5:30-7 p.m.
