Old films, recently restored, hit the big screen at Wexner Center
Visionary film directors from across the globe will be in the spotlight as the Wexner Center for the Arts’ film restoration series returns for a second year.
Cinema Revival: A Festival of Film Restoration begins Wednesday, Feb. 24 and runs through Tuesday, March 1.
The series is an opportunity for film fans to appreciate various restored classic films produced by leading filmmakers from all over the world. Attendees also have the unique opportunity to interact with various film restoration experts about the intricacies of film restoration.
The six-day series features films from a wide array of famous directors, including Orson Welles (Chimes at Midnight), Luchino Visconti (Rocco and His Brothers), Frank Capra (Dirigible), Nicholas Ray (Johnny Guitar) and John Frankenheimer (The Manchurian Candidate). In addition, the festival will include several experimental films from the Academy of Motion Pictures & Sciences, which will be introduced by Mark Toscano, a preservationist at the academy.
“We’re excited to bring Cinema Revival back for its second year,” says David Fillipi, director of film and video at the Wexner Center. “After the success of last year’s event, it’s a great thrill to share with our film-loving audience more new restorations and more access to the experts who are working tirelessly to preserve cinematic heritage.”
Tickets are available for individual screenings, which cost $8 for the general public and $6 for Wexner Center members, students and senior citizens. All-access festival passes, which grant admission to all screenings and presentations, are also available at $35 for the general public and $30 for special cases.
