Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in Dublin
This is the weekend when central Ohioans don their top hats, buckle shoes and all things green for the celebration of St. Patrick’s Day – in one of the top 10 cities in the U.S. to celebrate it.
St. Patrick’s Day is one of the biggest days of the year for Dublin and there are plenty of festivities to partake in throughout the weekend and following week.
On Friday, March 11, the seventh annual Best Legs in a Kilt contest at Brazenhead Irish Pub in Historic Dublin. Bagpipe music and Irish dancing accompany the competition that sees men vie for the title of greatest gams. Sports lovers can also attend the Columbus Blue Jackets game that night to see special pre-game Irish performances.
Saturday, March 12, in Dublin starts with a pancake breakfast, followed by the Inflation Celebration for parade floats. A lively parade of dancers, floats, bands and maybe a leprechaun or two begins at 11 a.m.
And the weekend doesn’t end there. Visitors can follow the music to Metro Center for the Blarney Bash, which includes Irish dancing and a variety of bands, with food trucks providing festive Irish drinks and food options.
Next week, celebrate the day itself on March 17 at Brazenhead with performances by the Capital City Pipes and Drums Band, the Richen-Timm World Championship Irish Dancers, Tim O’Connor and others, along with traditional Irish food. Or stop by the Dublin Village Tavern for a pint of Guinness, Irish Kettle Dinner or Irish Car Bomb Brownie.
