CATCO will present Mothers and Sons, a play by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning screenwriter Terrence McNally, Feb. 10-28 in the Studio One Theatre at the Vern Riffe Center.
Mothers and Sons is a defining story about the AIDS epidemic. The story picks up 20 years
after the events of McNally’s 1990 television play, Andre’s Mother. Katharine Gerard, a mother who lost her son, Andre, to the AIDS virus 20 years ago, seeks closure by visiting her son’s partner, Cal, and his new partner, Will.
The New York Times calls Mothers and Sons “A resonant elegy for a ravaged generation,” while The Chicago Tribune calls it “eloquent, exceptionally timely and intensely resonant.”
Mothers and Sons debuted on Broadway in 2014 and has been nominated for two Tony Awards. CATCO’s presentation stars Jackie Bates as Katharine Gerard, David Vargo as Cal Porter and Joe Dallacqua as Will Ogden. Director Steven C. Anderson’s credits include The Elephant Man, Avenue Q, The 39 Steps and Hair, among others.
Mothers and Sons will open at 8 p.m. Feb. 12. The play will run Wednesday through Sunday each week during Feb. 10-28. Tickets will be $17 for Wednesday matinees, $30 on Thursdays, $35 on Sundays and $40 on Fridays and Saturdays. Students may purchase $15 tickets two hours before any performance.
Tickets can be purchased at the box office at 39 E. State St., by calling (614) 469-0939, visiting ticketmaster.com or visiting any Ticketmaster location.
