A Rare Inheritance
Opera Columbus acquires one-of-a-kind library

Opera Columbus recently acquired the William Scharf Memorial Library, one of the largest opera memorabilia collections in the United States.

The library contains a wide variety of important and rare opera recordings, including 1940s Metropolitan Opera broadasts, LPs, albums, cassettes and reel-to-reels, as well as printed materials. The library will be housed at the Opera Columbus Centre in Downtown Columbus.

"This collection is a true testament to the passion and love Mr. Scharf had for opera," says Press Southworth, executive director of Opera Columbus. "We cannot even begin to describe how excited we are to have this great resource right at our fingertips."

The William Scharf library will serve as a valuable resource to artists, students and to the preservation of opera's rich history. Additionally, information about Scharf's life will be displayed with the space of the library, memorializing his dedication to opera and education.
