The Dublin AM Rotary, sponsor of the Annual Arctic Open, has partnered with the Annual Wendy’s Chili Open, sponsored by the Westerville Sunrise Rotary Club, to hold their events on Feb. 6 at proximate locations and opposite schedules.
The Wendy's Chili Open is from noon to 5 p.m. at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, 4850 Powell Rd., Powell, and the Arctic Open is from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Shamrock Golf Club, 4436 W. Powell Rd., Powell.
Dave Connelly, president-elect of Dublin AM Rotary, says when the club learned the well-established Wendy’s Chili Open was coming to the Columbus Zoo, the opportunity to collaborate with the Westerville Sunrise Club to possibly combine the events seemed to be a great way to leverage resources, relationships and collect more money for local charities.
"The combined Arctic Open and Wendy’s Chili Open gives the public an opportunity to participate in two great community events where the proceeds will be used to fund many of the two clubs; ongoing service projects,” says Connelly. “By working together to cross-promote our events, we envision that the sum of our efforts will be greater than what our individual clubs can do alone - and that those projects in Dublin, Westerville, Central Ohio and other parts of the world will all be the beneficiaries of us working together in the Spirit of Rotary."
The Arctic Open was initiated by the Dublin AM Rotary Club and the Shamrock Golf Club in 1992. Since then, golfers have braved cold winter temperatures and occasionally snow to support worthy causes.
The donation for a four-person team is $320, or $80 for an individual to play in the Arctic Open. Golf registration includes golf fee, cart, prize bag, breakfast and lunch. Participants also receive a free ticket to the Wendy’s Chili Open.
Corporate sponsorship opportunities for both events are also available ranging from $500 to $20,000. Charities supported include: the Dublin AM Rotary Charitable Foundation, Dublin Veterans Project, Scholarships for Dublin High School Students, Dublin Welcome Warehouse, Dublin Robotics Club, Salvation Army Summer Camps; Willow Ridge Equine Center and more.
Event registration begins at 8:30 a.m., golf activities from 9–11 a.m. and light lunch, golf awards and raffle/drawing from 11 a.m. to noon, followed by the Wendy’s Chili Open from noon to 5 p.m.
