The Columbus Symphony Orchestra presents its 26 annual Holiday Pops concert at 8 p.m. Dec. 4, 3 and 8 p.m. Dec. 5 and 3 p.m. Dec. 6.
Each performance features the Columbus Symphony Chorus, the Columbus Children’s Choir and dancers from BalletMet performing holiday favorites as well as the Holiday Pops overture.
This year, the concert will also feature a little twist. For the first time, The Columbus Symphony Orchestra is partnering with the Mid-Ohio Foodbank and the Charities Newsies to help give back this holiday season. While the symphony has conducted food drives for the Mid-Ohio Foodbank before, this is the first time it is partnering with the Charities Newsies.
The Mid-Ohio Foodbank has been working for nearly 30 years with different food providers - including grocers and farmers - to get food donations for local organizations in need throughout central and eastern Ohio.
Charity Newsies works toward distributing new clothing free of charge to schoolchildren in Franklin County. They also assist victims of fires and floods with clothing donations.
At each concert, donations will be collected of non-perishable food items to help the Mid-Ohio Foodbank feed the hungry. Attendees are encouraged to bring a donation item and in return will receive an online downloadable card for Holiday Pops performance pieces.
The Columbus Symphony Orchestra will also provide a download code in an ad for the Charity Newsies edition of The Columbus Dispatch as part of the Charity Newsies 103rd newspaper sale. This sale benefits Franklin Country school children and will take place on Dec. 13.
“These are two of the most far-reaching and well-established charities in the Columbus region. The CSO wanted to make an impactful contribution this holiday season, and we are confident that our partnership with the Mid-Ohio Foodbank, which feeds thousands of Ohio citizens each year, and the Charity Newsies, which clothes Franklin County schoolchildren, will truly make a difference,” says Roland Valliere, CEO and president of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra.
